Gemstone Lights

“Calgary asks a roofline light to survive the snow. Phoenix asks it to survive July. Both are fair questions.”

Gemstone Lights is a Canadian company out of Calgary, a city that measures winter in months and shovels. A permanent roofline light there spares someone from stringing bulbs over a snowbank. Here, it spares someone from stringing bulbs off a ladder at four in the afternoon, in a December that still feels like October. Different hardship. Same relief.

The system will look familiar to anyone who's seen one: addressable, color-changing LEDs in a low-profile track under the eave, run from a phone app with schedules and scenes. Gemstone is sold and installed through authorized dealers. We're licensed electricians, not a Gemstone dealer, and if your system is under warranty, your dealer gets the first call.

Our part is the house side. Phoenix asks a lot of anything fastened to a roofline: fascia that bakes all afternoon, dust that settles into every unsealed box, and monsoon wind that tests every fastener it can reach. We build and repair the power that feeds the lights, and we troubleshoot the system when it stops behaving. For the wider view, see our permanent Christmas lights page.

Before you call anyone, find the GFCI that feeds the lights and press reset. If that fixes it, congratulations, you just saved a service call. If it trips again, stop pressing. Call us. That's when it gets interesting.

What We Do

Gemstone Help From Licensed Electricians

One company, one schedule, one price you see before we start.

Electrical & Install

A permanent light needs a permanent power source. We build one that meets code and survives the climate.

  • New dedicated circuit sized for the system's power supplies
  • Outdoor GFCI receptacles placed where the dealer's layout needs them
  • Heavy-duty in-use covers that hold up against dust and driving rain
  • Surge protection at the panel so a nearby strike doesn't reach the controller
  • Shorter, cleaner cord routing between receptacle and power supply

Service & Repair

When Gemstone lights go quiet, we start at the panel and work toward the eave, testing as we go.

  • Troubleshooting dark sections and lights that won't hold a pattern
  • Replacing heat-damaged receptacles, covers, and cords
  • Restoring controller power and the network connection
  • Repairs after monsoon damage to wiring and track
  • Takedown, storage, and reinstall around re-roofing and stucco work

Repair

When Your Gemstone Lights Act Up

Most dead roofline systems we see have one of a short list of problems. These are the usual ones.

Dark after a storm

Check the GFCI and breaker first. If they hold, a surge may have damaged a power supply or the controller.

First few lights work, then nothing

The break is right where the light stops: a connector, a pinched wire, or a cracked section.

Lights dim toward the end of the run

Voltage drop on a long run. It may need another power injection point or a power supply check.

Random flashing or glitching

A loose data connection or a power supply on its way out. Heat makes both worse.

App connects, lights don't respond

The controller has a network but no output, which points to a wiring or power supply fault farther down the line.

What Heat Does to the Power Side

Heat rarely kills an LED outright. It works slower than that. It loosens connections a little each summer, ages cheap plastic covers until they crack, and cooks receptacles that were never meant to sit on a west-facing wall at 115 degrees. By year three, a sloppy install starts announcing itself, usually on the night you have company.

So we spec the boring parts with care: commercial-grade GFCI receptacles, covers that close with the cord in, and power supplies mounted where they can breathe. If you're also lighting the yard, our notes on outdoor lighting for desert homes cover the same climate problems at ground level. Have us look at the power side before the next heat wave does.

Under Warranty, and Out of It

If your Gemstone system is still under the manufacturer's warranty, call your dealer before you call us. Warranty work belongs to them, and we won't do anything that muddies a claim. We will check the circuit and receptacle if the dealer asks, since that part of the house is ours to fix.

Out of warranty is a different story. Then you want someone local who answers the phone, shows up on time, and quotes a flat rate before the work starts. That's us. Our customer reviews, 4.7 stars on Google, will tell you how it usually goes. Then pick up the phone.

FAQ

Gemstone: Questions, Answered

No. We're licensed electricians, not a Gemstone Lights dealer, and we don't sell Gemstone products or perform warranty service. We handle the electrical work, troubleshooting, and out-of-warranty repairs.

A Gemstone dealer sells and installs new systems. We can handle the electrical prep before that install, or quote our own permanent LED roofline lighting for a side-by-side comparison.

Product ratings are a question for the manufacturer and your dealer. What we can tell you is that receptacles, covers, cords, and power supply placement matter a great deal here, and those are the parts we build and repair.

Lightning-induced surges, water intrusion, and wind damage are the common causes. We test the circuit, the receptacle, and the power supplies, then recommend surge protection to guard the system next season.

We serve metro Phoenix, including Scottsdale, Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa, and the rest of the Valley.
