Generac Generators in Phoenix

“A generator that won't start in a monsoon outage is a very expensive lawn ornament.”

Walk any newer street in Gilbert or north Scottsdale and count the gray boxes beside the AC pads. Most of them say Generac. There's a reason. Generac sells more home standby generators than anyone in the country, parts are everywhere, and nearly every electrician has seen the inside of one.

That last part is the problem. Seeing the inside of one and installing one properly are different trades. A Generac sized on a guess will start fine in January and fold in August, when the AC compressor, the pool pump, and the second fridge all ask for power at once. We size for the worst day of the year, because that's the day you bought it for.

We handle the whole job: the load calculation, the pad, the transfer switch, the permit, the inspection, and the first start. If you're still deciding whether you need one at all, read our honest breakdown of what a whole-home generator costs in Phoenix first. We'd rather you buy once.

Install & Service

Generac Installs and Annual Service

One company, one schedule, one price you see before we start.

Install

A Generac install is part electrical, part gas, part paperwork. We run the whole thing so you deal with one company and one schedule.

  • Whole-home load calculation, including AC start-up surge, pool equipment, and EV charging
  • Placement that meets Generac's clearance rules, city setbacks, and your HOA
  • Automatic transfer switch install — service-rated or panel-mounted, whichever your home needs
  • Gas line sizing and connection coordinated with a licensed plumber, natural gas or propane
  • Permit, inspection, first start, controller activation, and Mobile Link Wi-Fi setup

Service

Generac's weekly exercise cycle keeps the engine limber. It doesn't change the oil. Our annual service does the rest.

  • Oil and filter change, spark plugs, and air filter on the schedule your hours call for
  • Battery load test — a weak battery is the number-one reason standbys don't start
  • Controller firmware check, alarm history review, and exercise-cycle settings
  • Transfer switch inspection and a live, under-load transfer test
  • Enclosure cleanout: dust, debris, and the occasional pack rat who moved in

Repair

When Your Generac Acts Up

Generac's controller tells you something is wrong. It rarely tells you why. Here's what the common alarms usually mean in our climate.

"Overcrank" alarm

The engine cranked but never caught — usually a fuel supply problem, a failing battery, or a fouled spark plug.

"Low Oil Pressure"

Low oil level, the wrong oil viscosity for our heat, or a failing oil pressure switch.

"RPM Sense Loss"

The controller lost the engine speed signal — often a wiring or sensor fault, sometimes a dying battery.

Won't exercise on schedule

Controller settings, a dead battery charger, or a utility-sense issue at the transfer switch.

Runs, but the house stays dark

Transfer switch fault, a tripped generator breaker, or a contactor that didn't close.

Why Phoenix Heat Changes the Math

Every generator loses some of its rated output as the air gets hotter and thinner. Brochures are written at mild temperatures. Your outage will not be. We account for it when we size the unit, so the number on the side of the box is the number you actually get on a 115-degree afternoon.

The other heat problem is the air conditioner itself. A compressor can draw several times its running current for a split second at start-up. Pair the right Generac with a soft starter or load management and a modest unit can carry a big house. Skip that step and the generator spends the summer tripping its own breaker.

Already Own a Generac? Start Here

If your unit came with the house, nobody may have serviced it in years. Book a generator maintenance visit before monsoon season, not during it. And if the panel it feeds is the original builder-grade unit, ask us about a panel upgrade while we're there — an old panel is a weak link no generator can fix.

FAQ

Generac Generator Questions

It depends on your AC tonnage, square footage, and what you want running. Many Valley homes land between 18 and 26 kW for whole-house coverage, often with load management. We do a real load calculation before quoting — never a guess off the square footage.

Yes. We activate the controller at first start, set the exercise schedule, and connect Mobile Link so you can check your generator from your phone.

Yes. We service and repair Generac units regardless of who installed them. If we find install problems — undersized wire, missing clearances — we'll show you and quote the fix.

At least once a year, ideally in spring before monsoon season. Heat and dust are hard on batteries, filters, and oil, so annual service matters more here than in mild climates.

Yes. A standby generator involves electrical and gas work, and Valley cities require permits and inspection. We pull the permits and meet the inspector.
